Speech And Drama

Speech and Drama Teacher : Razia Vawda

I have been teaching Speech & Drama at Al Noor for 25 years. Speech and drama plays a vital part of the development of child.

As humans we communicate verbally our whole lives. Right from the day a child is born, he/she communicates via facial expression and sounds. As the child grows older he learns how to say words, then sentences, and how to read facial expressions and body language. Speech & Drama enhances and improves these skills.

Benefits of Learning Speech and Drama

Speech & Drama allows the child to express himself in a fun and relaxed way. It challenges the child, invoking curiosity and empathy, and social skills while providing opportunities for children to experience the world from perspectives outside of their own. It is an interactive way of learning that helps children overcome their shyness, stretch their imagination and gain the ability to articulate, express, present and perform the English Language.

Speech and Drama also develops self-confidence, self-esteem, leadership qualities, body awareness, space awareness, timing, imagination, facial expressions, vocabulary and sentence construction, friendship bonds, and communication skills.

Lessons

The weakly lessons are loud and energetic with lots of movement and dramatization. During the first half of each lesson I do extensive speech and breathing exercises to develop flexibility of the organs of articulation as well as to develop the lungs, diaphragm control, resonance and vocal projection

The remaining half of the lesson, is used for Drama, where I do dramatizations, verbal dynamics, games and exercises, show & tell, poems, mime, improvisation, role-play, etc.

Assessments

Speech and drama assessments occur twice a year in the form of set poems and show and tell. These assessments are to evaluate your child’s progress over the course of the year. We also have grandparent’s day and end of year concert where your child can practice and showcase what they have learned.

Requirements

Your child will require an A5 hardcover note book for the speech exercises and poem.
