Sports Day

There is no doubt that sport has a physical and educational impact on people of all ages. In young children changes can be seen in (i) motor skills and (ii) educational potential. This shows the positive relationship between being involved in physical activities and psychosocial development.

Sport is fundamental to the early development of children and youth and the skills learned during play and sport contribute to the holistic development of young people. Through participation in sport young people learn about the importance of key values such as:

  • Teamwork,
  • Fair Play,
  • Respect For Themselves And Others, And
  • Adherence To Rules.

It also provides a forum for young people to learn how to deal with competition and how to cope with both winning and losing. These learning aspects highlight the impact of sport on a child’s social and moral development in addition to physical skills and abilities.

At AL NOOR we host an annual sports day once a year, generally towards the end of the first term. The event is held at the UKZN Westville Indoor sport facility. All families and friends of the learners are welcome to come and show their support. The sports program is designed with races that encourages all the large muscle development required of the learners. The races are designed to suit their ages and capabilities. We encourage healthy competition amongst our learners and each child participates in at least four races.

Children are divided into two teams: RED ROSES & BLUE BELLS. Each team has three house mistresses, the teachers. Our caregivers are on hand to assist wherever required.

At the end of the event each child receives a trophy.

Together with the annual sports day we at Al Noor provide the opportunity for our children to participate in weekly sports activities via our Wacko Ball program. We also have a Monkeynastix program which is optional. Parents would need to register for this.
